Dow Jones Names BMW the Greenest Automaker According to Autoblog, for the fifth consecutive year, the BMW Group  has been named by Dow Jones as the leader in its industry, making it the world's most sustainable automobile manufacturer. The BMW Group is the only company in the automobile industry to have been listed in this important sustainability index family every year since it was established in 1999. The Board of Management of the BMW Group declared sustainability one of the company's core strategic principles back in 2000. At the BMW Group corporate sustainability is firmly entrenched throughout the entire value chain: from the development of fuel-saving and alternative vehicle concepts through clean production processes to green recycling practices. The BMW Group also accepts responsibility for its roughly 100,000 employees and is involved in social projects outside of its plants. Proposals are measured against the corporate goal of sustainability. At the highest management level a Sustainability Board was established in summer 2009. This board, which comprises the entire Board of Management, determines the strategic alignment for sustainability issues.

At the 2008 NAIAS, the BMW 335d featuring Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance for maximum output of 265 hp and peak torque of 425 lb-ft. will provide a clear and convincing demonstration of these qualities. On the road, this means acceleration from 0–62 mph in 6.0 seconds and  fuel economy of 36mpg (highway, provisional data).

The BMW X5 xDrive35d, will also debut in Detroit. Like the 335d, the X5 xDrive35d offers sporting character through BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance, while standing out as a high-torque Sports Activity Vehicle with excellent qualities for long-distance motoring. The BMW X5 xDrive35d accelerates from 0–62 mph in just 6.8 seconds and offers fuel economy of 26 mpg (highway, provisional data).

BMW of North America, LLC. opened its new $100 million addition to its Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey US headquarters. The expansion is BMW Group's largest investment in the U.S. since the inception of its U.S. subsidiary in 1975, apart from the plant in Spartanburg, S.C.

The new buildings will be home to BMW Group's national Training Center, Eastern Sales Region and U.S. Engineering operations. The facilities will help the company to develop advanced technology and the highest level of professional training for a premium customer experience. 1,000 people will be working on the expanded BMW of North America Campus.
